Description
Read more In The Swim Stain Away Pool Stain Remover In The Swim Stain Away Pool Stain Remover prevents and removes mineral stains caused by iron, copper, and magnesium. It also prevents the build-up of scale around the water line and in the plumbing. When minerals oxidize, they discolor. After discoloration, they can leave a stain if the mineral settles on the interior. Iron will become red-brown; copper will turn purple-black; and magnesium is pink-purple. Stain away is a must for areas with heavy iron and/or copper content or well water. Initial Dosage: 15 oz. per 10,000 gallons. A double dose is suggested for stubborn stains. In the Swim Stain Away Pool Stain Remover is applied directly to the pool water at a rate of 15 oz. per 10,000 gallons while the pool circulation system is running. Allow the pool to circulate for 3 - 4 hours. Regular brushing is suggested and encouraged. We suggest a double dose for stubborn stains and scale. Active Ingredient: Hydroxyethylidene Diphosphonic Acid (HEDP) 13 - 15%. A pool’s normal maintenance (vacuuming, brushing, and skimming the water’s surface) is considered stain prevention. By doing this weekly, you are actively preventing organic stains. In the event that you are dealing with mineral stains, a sequestering agent or chelating agent like In The Swim Pool Stain Away Stain Preventer, used weekly would be suggesting to prevent stains along with normal weekly pool maintenance. Identification If organic or mineral stain does appear, there are a couple of different ways to identify a stain. The most common way is by color. Non-living organics will leave either a green or brown stain on the interior. When minerals oxidize and change color such as iron, it will leave a red/brown colored stain, Copper will leave a purple/black stain, and magnesium will leave a pink/purple colored stain. Now that you know what the stain could potentially be, test the stain. If you think it is organic, use a rubber glove and rub a chlorine tablet against it. It's organic if it comes off or gets lighter. If you think the stain is mineral, use a rubber glove and rub a chewable vitamin C tablet against it. It's a mineral stain if the stain come off or is lighter. Removal The stain has been identified as either organic or mineral. Now is the time for treatment of the stains. In the event that you are dealing with an organic stain, super chlorinate using In The Swim Super Pool Shock and brush as often as possible. The more you brush and work the highly chlorinated pool water into the surface the better. In the event that you are dealing with a mineral stain, use In The Swim E-Z Pool Stain Remover and brush as often as possible. The more you brush the better the product works. I have used this as a stain preventer in the past and it seems to work well, although it's hard to judge the effectiveness of a product that is preventing something until it doesn't work. When I opened my pool this year I had a brownish yellow stain a foot wide around the entire pool. It is the first time I have encountered this. While this product is primarily for preventing stains, the directions on the bottle say this will remove stains if used in higher concentration, so I purchased two bottles for my 20,000 gallon pool and followed the directions precisely. The stain seems to have lightened a little, but it is still there. Directions say a second dose may be necessary, but I'm reluctant to spend another $30 to find out if a second dose will eliminate the stain. I did try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on one section of the stain and it did seem to remove it pretty well. It will take some work, but I will try that before buying more expensive chemicals. Products effective on some stains may not be on others. It depends on what is causing the stain, so try to figure that out before buying expensive chemical solutions.6/21/15 Update To Review - The stain did continue to lighten, but I was able to remove it completely by going around the pool with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Don't know if this will work on other pool stains, but with the combination of Stain Away and the Magic Eraser, I was able to eliminate my stain. I may have been able to do it with the Magic Eraser alone, but it likely would have been a little more work to do so. If I get the a similar pool stain again, I will try the Magic Eraser because it is a cheap solution, but wouldn't hesitate to use the Stain Away again if necessary.EventuallyWorksWorked for meproduct did what it said it wouldPleased with results for removal, now it's maintenance time.Pool stains. It didn’t work very well.We were sold a used and very dirty pool. Scrubbed for weeks before we finally searched the internet for a good product, this cleaned it without scrubbing!Deciding whether to purchase again as some stains look lighter. The directions indicate that more than one treatment may be necessary. I want to find a product that removes the metal stains in order to have my pool crystal clear.
